Conquering my fears

So the last few days I've been feeling kinda blah. I called home and talked to my Mom and my sister about it. My Mom suggested that I go out and just go for a walk, get some sunlight.
That was a great ideas accept for the fact that I have been scared out of my mind to go outside, by myself, not in my car, in fear of having a "run in" with a moose.
Let me explain. A lady from the ward came a few nights ago and made her "welcome to the ward" visit. While here she gave us some pamphlets on how to prepare ourselves for things that happen around here (i.e. volcanoes, earthquakes, bears, moose, etc.) Everything she talked about she had stories to go along with them. When she talked about the moose, she talked about all these people who had come face to face with moose, or were trampled by a moose--yeah not something to ease my worries.
Anyway, this morning I woke up and told myself I was going to go start walking. I wasn't going to let the idea of a stupid moose keep me inside, cooped up all day while JC was at work. I got JC breakfast, got some stuff done I needed to, took a shower, had my nap and lunch, got dressed and put my walking shoes and coat on. I opened the door, poked my head out onto the porch and scanned for moose. Didn't see anything so I walked out and pulled the door shut and locked it behind me. I walked out to the end of the driveway and turned to walk a few steps down the side walk and crossed the street so I could walk past the park. After crossing the street I started out on the sidewalk. About 10 steps into my walk I hear something that sounded like the snap of a twig. I turned my head to look across the street where the noise came from. Whadda ya know!! IT WAS A MOOSE eating the neighbors tree twigs. I immediately froze in my steps, turned the other way, and picked up my pace as I headed for the safety of my apartment. I managed to get the door unlocked and looked up to see if the moose had followed me at all. It was still where I had left it so I went inside and got my camera. I then spent the next 20 minutes watching it continue to eat the neighbors trees, moving a little closer as it ate.
As I'm watching the moose, JC pulled into the driveway. I went to the door to point the moose out to him. I then ran back downstairs to get my camera to hopefully take a better picture of it. As I looked out the window one last time before going back up to meet JC, I saw the moose jump the neighbors fence! Dang Moose! Now JC wasn't going to believe me. Hopefully the pictures I got before would suffice.
After JC got inside I told him all about it and showed him the pictures. I said something along the lines of, "This is why I'm not going back outside to go walking! I thought I was going to conquer my fears today, and look what happens!!"

Oh my goodness! I can see why you wouldn't want to go out. I thought that same thing when I was in Guam and I heard about the packs of homeless dogs that would attack walkers. Just say a quick prayer before you leave and start with short walks, around the block and that sort of thing. Miss you guys!

That is so crazy! My sister's kids have had all sorts of assemblies on moose and bear safety since moving to AK.

Oh my gosh, Jena! That is HILARIOUS!! I could just picture you the whole time I read your post! I'm glad you got a picture! What an adventure! ha ha! It sucks being cooped up! I am without a car most days and with the weather being too cold to play outside, I'm going a little batty! I hope you can get out and the moose leave you alone! :)

If I were you, I don't think I could EVER go walking again! And of course when you are ready to conquer your fears it happens! I would be so scared! I'm glad that you are okay and you made it back into your house safely! :)
